Introduction
Hey there!
My name is Arabella, I am a passionate musician who once struggled with traditional piano lessons but found my true calling in singing. My journey has been anything but conventional, but it has led me to share my love of music with others. As a kid, I was your typical piano dropout.
My Musical Background:
I took piano from about 5-10yrs old and HATED IT. No hate of course to the piano instructor- he was a musical genius and also had taught my grandma and dad. But I just really didn’t want to be a classical pianist- I just really wanted to play enough to write songs and sing them.
But of course, I was told to just go practice my scales and then the rest would come. Ok, I thought, maybe playing and singing and improvising would be a skill I learned in twenty years. Maybe- I still know classical musicians who can’t read a chord chart. Luckily, this wasn’t the end of my musical journey as I found choir and musicals, etc. a singer at heart.
I ended up being a pretty good singer. Competed regionally, sang nationally and even opened up my own voice studio.
Rediscovering Piano:
But by the time I got to the end of high school/beginning of college, I was kicking myself for not sticking with piano.
On one hand if I stuck with it, I probably would have dropped music all together. On the other, maybe I could play for myself.
Every time I had a melody in my head, I had to count on someone else to plunk out the right notes: every time I wanted to warm up, I had to rely on prerecorded tracks from my teacher.
Launching Piano for the vocalist:
So I doubled down and created my own learning journey to learn piano- specially designed to teach myself how to accompany and now I’m sharing it with you. Fast forward a decade later, and I started teaching it my vocal students who were running into the very same issue.
